Nestled between the Swartberg and Kammanasie mountain ranges, De Rust is a quaint Victorian village with the most spectacular views in the Klein Karoo. It is situated at the Southern entrance to Meiringspoort, the portal between the Little Karoo and the Great Karoo. Here you can enjoy hiking trails, cycling tracks, stargazing, horse riding, bird watching and fresh water fishing. Take a walk with giraffes, visit an ostrich farm or go for a mountain pool swim at the famous Meiringspoort Waterfall. Explore the wine route in this area that is famous for its tradition of exceptional fortified wines and be treated to some of the country’s finest cuisine drawing on the rich country traditions of the area. Farming activities in the environs include ostriches, olives, almonds, pomegranates, figs, lamb and vegetable seed production. At Doornkraal, enfolded by the foothills of the Swartberge, we’ve been making wine since the late 1800’s.
