We are a 7th-generation family-run estate, well known for our hospitality and friendliness. Through this, we would like to extend a warm invitation to all our wine & food-loving friends to come and visit us on the Estate. Opstal Estate is situated at the foot of the Slanghoek mountains in the heart of the breathtakingly beautiful Slanghoek Valley on the Breedekloof Wine Route. The valley forms part of the Breede River Valley with Worcester as the closest, large town. Opstal Estate’s rich history dates back to 1847 when JC Rousseau acquired the farm De Opstal bij de Fonteine. Just over a century later, in 1950, fourth-generation Carl Everson decided to continue making his own wine instead of joining the local cooperative winery like many other producers. Today, Opstal offers a wide range of quality estate wines under three different labels: the fun, easy-drinking, and pocket-friendly Sixpence Range; the classical and food-friendly Estate Range; and the premium Heritage Range, with our multiple 5-star Platter award-winning Carl Everson Chenin Blanc, the cream of the crop. When we say family, we mean it in every sense of the word.
