Arriving in the Cape from Johannesburg in January 2020, I was eager to explore the beautiful Winelands and all they had to offer. Alas, Covid hit, and being housebound for months put a damper on those plans. Emerging from the pandemic, the kids and I were ready to get out and about.
Wine farms served various purposes for me: a beautiful spot for a business meeting, a scenic place for some admin work, a family-friendly day out, or a peaceful retreat for self-care and alone time, away from the hustle and bustle of working mom life.
During nearly five years in the Cape, we discovered many hidden gems and indulged in popular local wine farms just down the road from our home. In my adventures, I couldn’t help but notice how many wine farms I hadn’t known existed or how much they offered, like hiking and mountain biking trails, art installations, activities, restaurants, and most importantly, child-friendly options. I often wondered what was available in my surrounding areas when traveling throughout the Western Cape. A thought kept popping into my head: “Wouldn’t it be nice to have a directory at my fingertips where I could filter and select wine farms to suit my needs?” Whether heading out for a ladies’ lunch, an adventure with the kids, or seeking a bespoke wine experience, this idea lingered.
In October 2023, Henry made a grand entrance into my life as we shared a wonderful afternoon at Grangehurst. Our shared love for wine and the Winelands breathed life into the idea of a digital wine directory that would revolutionize the Winelands experience.
