GlenWood is located In the Robertsvlei Valley, close to the village of Franschhoek in the Western Cape. The valley was first proclaimed in the early 1800’s whereafter it was farmed with multiple crops including grapes which were delivered to the local Co-operative for vinification. It was subdivided in 1984 when GlenWood was established on 52ha (128 acres). The farm is surrounded by magnificent indigenous “fynbos”, being part of the Cape Floral Kingdom, and is frequented by a diversity of fauna including duiker, grysbok, caracal, baboons, birdlife and, occasionally, leopard. In addition to its mainstream wine production, GlenWood now also produces small quantities of proteas, including the Blushing Bride, known as The Pride of Franschhoek, which is endemic to the Robertsvlei Valley. GlenWood has always been passionate about preserving this natural environment through the use of sustainable farming and cellar practices and has been awarded the coveted WWF Conservation Champion status. As a small winery, guests at GlenWood will find a friendly and personal environment in which wine ambassadors are keen to impart knowledge about the farm, its wines, and helpful tasting procedures if required. Tastings are held on the Tasting Room terrace under the vine-covered pergola, or inside if the weather is inclement. GlenWood’s decision 3 years ago to establish a Gourmet Sushi restaurant on its wine farm has been met with great success. Not only is the sushi world-class in its own right, but when complemented by GlenWood’s outstanding wines, in their beautiful location, this becomes a winning combination. Some of GlenWood’s specialities are: Calamari Tentacles, Salmon Sashimi, the Crunch Bomb Roll, made up of prawn tempura and avo on the inside, topped with fresh, seared tuna, a sweet soy sauce and tempura crumbs; the Hot Night Roll, another specialty dish of spiced tuna on the inside, topped with a panko shrimp and spicy, sweet chilli mayo. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are available on request.
