Morgenster Estate is situated in the heart of the Helderberg, at the foothills of the mountains where eagles glide through the sky and owls nest in trees near the historic Manor House. The estate’s rich heritage forms the foundation of the Bertrand family’s legacy. In 1992, Giulio Bertrand, an Italian entrepreneur with a passion for excellence, acquired Morgenster after retiring from a successful career in the textile industry. Drawn to the beauty of the Cape Winelands, he set out to transform the estate into a center for producing world-class Bordeaux-style wines and premium extra virgin olive oils. With the estate’s ideal terroir and coastal location, Bertrand enlisted the expertise of Pierre Lurton from Château Cheval Blanc and Château d’Yquem in Bordeaux to elevate the winemaking process. In addition, he partnered with the Olive Oil Institute in Perugia, Italy, importing 17 specially selected olive varieties. Through these efforts, Morgenster played a pioneering role in establishing South Africa’s olive oil culture. The estate's commitment to quality and innovation continues to shape its legacy, blending a 300-year history with a modern vision for excellence.
