Hooggelegen Farm, home of Signal Gun Wines, has been in the De Wit-family for over six generations, and is one of the oldest, family-owned wine farms in the Durbanville area. In 2010, M.J de Wit and his wife, Estani, took over the management of the farm from their parents Ryk and Elmi. They had a vision of developing the farm into a family-friendly, food and wine destination. A wine brand, Signal Gun Wines, was founded and subsequently the opening of a restaurant to showcase their wines. A few years later the tasting room and a craft beer range followed. ‘We wanted to use the opportunity we received to diversify, and to share the farm’s offering with the public. We’re doing this by utilising the grapes, the beautiful setting and by adapting the original infrastructure to be more visitor-friendly.’ M.J. and Estani de Wit, owners. What started as a hobby for M.J. in 2006, gradually grew into an award-winning wine range – the Signal Gun Gun Smoke Merlot and Signal Gun Blanc de Noir, are just some of our wines which have received accolades through the years.
